Investigate The Camas Prairie
|
|
Welcome to the prairie! The settlement of Cottonwood originated its unique name from the black cottonwood trees that grew along the creek, a species considered the largest poplar in North America. Within 8 miles in three directions are the small communities of Ferdinand, Greencreek and Keuterville. All four of our small communities are located in one of the largest counties in the nation and only 14 miles from the Idaho County seat of Grangeville. We pride ourselves in living in one of the most beautiful and serene areas of the country. We are typically described as being in the central "panhandle" region of the state. Our north soil is black, rich and productive. We boast having both open areas with rolling hills and rugged, heavily wooded mountain areas just minutes away. The Salmon, Snake and Clearwater Rivers are in close proximity and with it all the great fishing and river rafting opportunities that come with them. Residents and visitors alike enjoy other year round outdoor activities including hunting, camping, hiking, and both winter skiing and summer jet boating. The air is clean and crisp and the change of seasons spectacular. Our summers are moderately warm and we are often surprised with a beautiful blanket of snow in the winter. Our community is small, with a population of 2,278 residents including the surrounding area townships. We are a close knit and progressive community which enjoys a healthy business climate, friendly atmosphere and a wide array of available services. We take great pride in our area schools, hospital and medical services. The law is enforced by the Idaho County Sheriff and Cottonwood Police and our crime rate is very low. Our peaceful community provides a secure environment in which to live, raise children, retire and own property. We take care of each other in all walks of life, as seen in our various services including a children's theater, a strong high school sports program, numerous men's and women's social and civic groups and an active Senior Citizens organization, just to name a few. We would surely welcome you with open arms. Please click on the other categories to see what our community offers.
